Dinesh Regmi
Investigative Journalist
Dinesh Regmi is a Kathmandu-based freelance journalist with over two decades of experience covering migration, human trafficking, disaster and displacement, cross-border affairs, and parliamentary affairs. In recent years, he has expanded his focus to environmental and climate reporting. Earlier in his career, he reported extensively on Nepal's Maoist insurgency and the subsequent peace process.
Regmi has reported from remote and urban communities across Nepal, as well as from the Middle East and India. Known for his rigorous field-based journalism, his work has contributed to shaping policies and legislation at the national level.
At NIMJN, Regmi served as a Trainer, Mentor, and Senior Fellow in 2024–2025, guiding journalists on reporting migration, human trafficking, disaster-displacement, and journalistic ethics. He produced two investigative multimedia stories for NIMJN, one on migration and one on human trafficking.
He spent 22 years at Kantipur Daily, working both in Nepal and abroad. From 2009 to 2012, he served as the publication's Arab Bureau Chief, based in Doha, Qatar, where he also contributed to the BBC Nepali Service. Prior to Kantipur, he spent nearly three years at Mahanagar and Nepal Samacharpatra Daily under Kamana Publications.
Regmi began his journalism career after completing a 10-month Proficiency Journalism Course at the Nepal Press Institute in Kathmandu. He holds a Master's degree in Mass Communication and Journalism from Purbanchal University, Nepal.
